Welcome to Pops Spedster's Place, where special education teachers, parents and students will find instructional supports and accommodations for people with intellectual disabilities resulting from low incidence and acquired impairments. At Pops Spedster's Place, we use Developmentally Appropriate Instruction (DAI) to teach academic and functional skills related to developmental assessments and Common Core State Standards.

For transition aged students, 16 to 21, IDEA requires that they be taught daily living skills.

On a daily basis, everyone handles money. This chart translates money into adaptive, functional terms so that students can pair the value of a nickel in terms of return value at a recycling center (assuming your state has a nickel deposit on cans). Also, students can place actual coins on the page to show how many nickels are in a quarter.

An exchange of nickels for quarters demonstrates how many quarters make a dollar.

Here is a worksheet that requires students to use the "Next Dollar" strategy to estimate how many dollars they will need for a purchase.

Here is a restaurant menu from which students can order and take orders and use a calculator to determine the cost of a meal.
